A new study by the Center for Financial Inclusion (CFI), an independent think tank housed at Accion, documents how repeated, localized climate shocks are quietly eroding the livelihoods of women running small businesses in the most exposed corners of Ethiopia’s cities. “Our findings show that within high-risk environments, access to timely information and liquidity significantly shapes recovery trajectories,” said the study’s co-author, Anindita Chakraborty. Added co-author Edoardo Totolo, “Risk is widespread at the city level, realized impacts are more selective, and our study focuses on the most exposed segment to understand the intensity of those impacts.”
