Washington, D.C. June 6, 2024: Global nonprofit Accion today announced the appointment of Esteban Altschul as President of Accion Impact Management. In this new position, Altschul will lead Accion’s platform for impact investments in financial inclusion leveraging third-party capital.

Altschul moves to this position after 14 years as Accion’s Chief Operating Officer, bringing over two decades of investment experience.

“After 14 years of stellar service as Accion’s Chief Operating Officer, I am delighted to welcome Esteban to a new role as President of Accion Impact Management,” said Michael Schlein, President and CEO of Accion. “Top quality management of third-party capital is central to our strategy connecting millions of low-income people around the world to responsible financial services. Esteban will strengthen our fund strategy and operations, building a strong platform for future growth.”

Prior to Accion, Altschul was Principal Investment Officer and led human resources at the International Finance Corporation (IFC). He structured investments in Latin America and Eastern Europe that totaled over $1.3 billion in loans and equity and managed a $1.5 billion portfolio of more than 30 companies. He also led global staffing and was the architect of the first-ever variable compensation incentive plan for any multilateral organization.

“I am excited to take on this new role with Accion Impact Management to build the investment team and infrastructure for continued growth,” said Esteban Altschul. “Leveraging third-party capital from investors through scalable funds is key to making savings, insurance, credit, and other quality financial solutions available to low-income people globally. Through our work, we can connect millions of people to responsible financial solutions so they can make informed decisions and improve their lives.”

Altschul began his career in investment banking at Kidder, Peabody & Co. in New York and has undertaken work across more than 80 countries. He holds graduate and undergraduate degrees from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service.
