As former Senior Director for Accion Global Investments, Robert Ongodia was responsible for leading the team’s investment activity in sub-Saharan Africa. As part of his role, he supported governance as a non-executive director of portfolio partner UGAFODE Microfinance Ltd (MDI) Uganda.
Robert brought more than twenty years of experience in microfinance, banking, financial sector regulation, and impact investing, with a range of experience in strategic planning, investment analysis, restructuring, and policy design. Before coming to Accion, Robert worked for Centenary Bank, Bank of Uganda, and FINCA where he transformed struggling institutions into profitable ventures. He also managed several equity and debt-focused impact investing funds at MicroVest, where he expanded the funds’ outreach to more than 16 countries in Africa.
Robert holds a master’s in economic policy management from Columbia University and a B.S. in economics with honors from Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda.
