With over seven years of experience in financial inclusion, Katia Huayta Zapata plays a leading role in projects across CFI’s portfolio by providing quantitative analysis, project management, and research design. She became a Research Manager in August 2021, initially focused on micro, small, and medium enterprises, and consumer financial health.
Prior to joining CFI, Katia worked as a Senior Researcher and Microfinance Analyst at the Superintendence of Banks, Insurance, and Private Pension Funds in Peru, doing research and regulation analysis to enhance access to finance and financial stability in Peru. She also worked at the Colombian Private Council on Competitiveness, where she was responsible for the financial development chapter of the National Competitiveness Report. She was a volunteer in several non-profit organizations, including Lima Microfinance Initiative.
Katia is a JJ/WBGSP scholar and she graduated from Harvard Kennedy School of Government with a master’s in public administration in international development. In addition, Katia holds a master’s degree in economics from the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú and a bachelor’s degree in economics engineering from the Universidad Nacional de Ingeniería in Peru.
