Client of Accion USA

Homesick for his native Turkey, Eddie Gundogdu set out to create an authentic Mediterranean restaurant in New York City, where he could share the flavor of his homeland to New Yorkers. He set up the process to import fish daily from the Mediterranean region with branzini from Turkey, anchovies from the Black Sea, and St. Peter’s fish from Israel. And Dardanel Restaurant was born.

Not only did Eddie want his restaurant to have an authentic taste, but also an authentic feel. Eddie needed capital to renovate the restaurant to complete the Mediterranean experience. After approaching 7 different banks and being turned down, Eddie was referred to Accion USA by Capital One. Despite his great credit score and collateral, the banks were unwilling to provide Eddie with the money he needed to create the desired look, and feel, for his restaurant.

After receiving his Accion loan, Eddie redecorated his restaurant to the beautiful interior he has today. As Eddie recently hired three new employees, his restaurant, continues to grow as it provides enticing food and atmosphere reminiscent of Eddie’s native Turkey.
