Background
CrediConfia was established in 2006 by a group of businessmen. Their objective was to fulfill the demand for loans for microentrepreneurs unserved by commercial banks; to give clients an opportunity to obtain larger and more timely loans necessary for their financial stability and that of their families; and to contribute to Mexico's economic development, especially in rural and semi-urban communities.
CrediConfia launched operations in 2007 by providing loans exclusively to solidarity groups. Two years later, the institution started offering individual loans. Today, CrediConfia has a network of 25 branches in six states throughout Mexico and a staff of more than 300.
In 2012, Accion made an investment totaling U.S. $1.9 million in CrediConfia and, as a part of the partnership, Accion provides management and technical support to CrediConfia, including deployment of Accion’s credit technology to expand and improve the scope of CrediConfia’s products, improve loan quality and profitability and, in turn, help position CrediConfia as a leading provider of microfinance products and services in Mexico.
