Bogotá Only: August 9th - August 13th, 2009
Join ACCION on a trip to Colombia, home to our longtime microfinance partner, Finamerica, and witness firsthand the impact of your support. As part of the delegation, receive a comprehensive overview of microfinance in Colombia as you meet with experts, field officers and the clients behind the stories. We invite you on this incredible journey to: - Visit with microentrepreneurs as they share their experiences on how Finamerica’s microloans have empowered them to change the course of their lives.
- Meet with Finamerica branch managers and loan officers to gain a fuller understanding of the life of a loan, the methodology behind lending, and the impact it has on the borrowers and their families.
- Learn from Finamerica senior executives about the history of microfinance in Colombia, how Finamerica is meeting the needs of the working poor, and their plans for future growth.
- Visit ACCION’s Latin America hub office and hear firsthand from our program staff about ACCION’s planned projects and innovations, such as the Rural Lending Program, designed to reach new avenues and solutions in the development of rural lending for the poor.
- Attend a session of ACCION’s client education program, Dialogue on Business, which empowers microentrepreneurs to take control of their finances and become informed and effective consumers of financial services.
- Travel to Cartagena, Colombia to meet with microentrepreneurs who earn their living fishing in the remote islands off the Caribbean coast. There, you will learn more about our partner‘s work in the region and witness how their efforts positively impacts families and children in the community.
Cartagena de Indias is often described as Latin America’s hidden gem, this ancient port city graces Colombia’s Caribbean coast and boasts beautiful beaches and rich history. Whether exploring it on foot or on a horse drawn carriage, visiting the “walled city” is a must if traveling in Colombia. On the delegation, you will have plenty of down time to enjoy and experience the beauty and regional flavor of Cartagena.
