Mission: Apoyo Integral is dedicated to providing accessible financial products and services that facilitate the socioeconomic inclusion of people with minimal access to the benefits of the country's growing economy.
History: In 1999, Fundación Salvadoreña de Apoyo Integral (FUSAI), contracted ACCION to evaluate its microloan portfolio using the ACCION CAMEL™, a comprehensive financial diagnostic tool designed especially for microfinance institutions. Using the results of the CAMEL™ evaluation, ACCION worked with FUSAI to transform the foundation's microlending arm into a private, commercial institution. Apoyo Integral has now taken over FUSAI's microloan portfolio. In June 2004, Apoyo Integral launched its first remittances program, available to residents of Washington. They plan to expand the service to other states in the U.S.
ACCION’s Role: Over the last year, ACCION has been working with Apoyo Integral to strengthen its institutional capacity by implementing short-term technical assistance in the areas of credit methodology monitoring and improved operational processes. Over a relatively short period of time, these efforts have resulted in improved portfolio quality, better customer service and increased profits for the MFI.
What’s New: ACCION has seconded a general manager and a resident advisor to Apoyo Integral to help them implement ACCION's new business model strategies. Currently, Integral’s Board of Directors, including two members from ACCION, is moving toward a regional, Central American model, in partnership with an important Latin American bank.
Where They Work: San Salvador, Apopa, San Juan Opico, Soyapango, Zacatecoluca and Valle de Zapotitan. Regional Headquarters are located in San Salvador.
