Mission: To realize the productive and creative potential of microentrepreneurs in Ecuador, Fundación Ecuartoriana de Desarrollo (FED) provides services in the areas of training, counseling, health, marketing and especially financing, through financial intermediaries that mobilize internal savings and contribute to Ecuador's national development.

History: FED was founded in 1968. In 1984, with the support of ACCION International and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), FED started Ecuador's first program to support microentrepreneurs. In 1988, with a loan from the Inter-American Development Bank, FED expanded beyond Quito.

ACCION’s Role: FED has received a license to offer "Dialogue on Business: Microenterprise Training", a fifty module microenterprise training program, and is one of the primary centers for this program in Ecuador.

Borrower Profile: All of FED's clients are individual borrowers. FED's loans are designed for microenterprises in production and retail.

What’s New: FED participated in a forum for partner NGOs, sponsored by ACCION, in which they exchanged information on experiences and best practices in the field of microfinance. FED also participated in a continuation of this meeting that occurred in May 2006 in Cuzco, Peru.
