Yes! I want to support microfinance and empower people to work their way out of poverty.

Education & Training

Since 1995, ACCION has been working on a key non-financial component of poverty alleviation: client education. ACCION has two major initiatives pertaining to client education:

  • Financial literacy modules, to help low-income clients better manage their personal and household finances and become informed and effective consumers of financial services.
  • Business training through our Dialogue on Business program – a set of award-winning modules that focus on building the skills of microentrepreneurs.

These client education programs, described below, are distinctive, as they are based on known pedagogy of how adults learn and are modular to accommodate the many business and personal demands of the working poor.

What makes ACCION's client education work distinctive and innovative?

  • Courses were developed based on feedback from low income people in multiple countries
  • Lessons are interactive and value life experience over lecture-style learning
  • Modules can be taught independently or they can be combined
  • Several modules are specifically designed for women entrepreneurs
  • Participation is completely voluntary and is not tied to the lending process in any way
  • All institutions licensed to teach Dialogue on Business have access to a virtual network that provides support and resources for facilitators.

ACCION's Financial Literacy program has expanded to India. Program materials are tailored to the socio-cultural diversity of India and employ adult-learning methodologies to teach financial concepts, ensuring better assimilation and internalization of the ideas in participants' daily lives.
