Statistics as of December 2006 Mission: Emprender Network is an umbrella organization that helps its associated programs develop their microcredit operations by facilitating credit, promoting savings and financing the microenterprise sector. History: Emprender Network began its operations in August 1990, when it linked 13 NGOs specializing in microfinance with the help of managers from Asociación Grupos Solidarios. There are now 36 affiliated NGOs in the Cooperativa Emprender Network. ACCION's Role: ACCION plays a key role in Emprender Network’s governance, occupying the position of president of the board of directors. ACCION has provided technical assistance and developed manuals on topics such as rural lending, housing loans, the benefits of variable salaries, and impact assessment. Cooperativa Emprender has disseminated these manuals to their network of affiliates in Colombia. ACCION also trained a team at Emprender Network to conduct the ACCION CAMEL™ analysis, accompanying the team on its first assessment at Banco Mundial de la Mujer in Medellin. Borrower Profile: The Emprender Network offers training services, consultation and credit to microentrepreneurs, who include small-scale producers, merchants and service providers.
