Charity Navigator Awards Top Rating to ACCION International

ACCION received Charity Navigator’s coveted four-star rating for demonstrating efficiency and sound fiscal management in its microfinance work around the world.  Charity Navigator, the nation’s largest independent evaluator of charities, annually applies data-driven analysis to charities and nonprofits, ranking them for efficiency and fiscal management. 



Fast Company
Names ACCION One of Nation’s Top Social Entrepreneurs
Selected for the fifth consecutive year for its pioneering approaches to poverty alleviation, ACCION was awarded the 2008 Social Capitalist Award by Fast Company magazine and the Monitor Group, and was named one of the top 45 organizations “using business excellence to engineer social change.”

Clinton Global Initiative Certificate of Commitment 2006
ACCION and American International Group, Inc. (AIG) were jointly awarded a Certificate of Commitment by former President Bill Clinton for their $ 5.25 million, three-year partnership to help ACCION deliver financial services and literacy programs to three million entrepreneurial poor in 33 countries, dramatically expanding the reach and sustainability of microfinance in emerging markets. The certificate was presented at the Clinton Global Initiative in New York on September 22, 2006.

Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Grants $5.8 million to ACCION International
ACCION International received a grant of $5.8 million in December 2005 from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.  The four-year gift is the largest single donation received by ACCION in its 45-year history and will be used to extend ACCION’s microfinance programs for the poor in West Africa and India.

Clinton Global Initiative Certificate of Commitment 2005
ACCION and Unitus were jointly awarded a Certificate of Commitment by former President Bill Clinton for the Unitus-ACCION Alliance for India whose goal is to bring financial services to more than 15 million working poor in India by 2015.

American Institute of Philanthropy (AIP) Names ACCION a Top-Rated Charity
In its triannual Charity Rating Guide, the AIP, a nonprofit charity watchdog, rates ACCION an A- for putting more than 75% towards programs cost while generally spending $25 or less to raise $100.

ACCION Meets Better Business Bureau (BBB) Wise Giving Alliance Standards
The BBB recognizes ACCION for meeting its standards for charity accountability, including governance, spending, truthfulness of representation and transparency.

ACCION Accredited by World Economic Forum
In January 2002, ACCION was one of 11 charities worldwide accredited by the World Economic Forum's Global Exchange for Social Investment (GEXSI). Accredited charities were selected based on outstanding performance in creating economic and social change.

Worth Magazine Names ACCION One of 100 Best Charities
ACCION was named one of the nation's top charitable institutions in the December 2001 issue of Worth Magazine. Chosen from over 800,000 nonprofit organizations, ACCION was one of 21 organizations listed in the "Relief and Development" category.
